Historic letter announcing the creation of SEProt (2004)

      Dear friends ,

The Spanish Society of Proteomics is now a reality! The idea of creating this new scientific association without spirit of profit arose during Proteomics Conferences celebrated in the University of Córdoba in February of 2003 and culminated in Valencia on April 13 of the present year with the signature of the Fundational Proceedings by delegates of Research Units and Proteomics Services that represent to a wide spectrum of the spanish Proteomics.

The SEProt is born with the aim of stimulating the development of Proteomics in our country, gathering researchers in the field of the Proteomics, users of Proteomics Services, Companies of the sector, and students interested in the study of the proteomes. With this purpose, the SEProt is going to organize periodic meetings to allow the discussion and the interchange of new ideas among investigators of both the academic and the industrial sector. The first Congress of the SEProt will be celebrated in Córdoba throughout the 14th 15th 16th and 17th of February, 2005. All the information related to this event will be accesible in the web page http://www.uco.es/servicios/scai/seprot2005.

As a corollary to the Congress, the first General Assembly of the SEProt will be celebrated in order to ratify in their charges the members of the provisional Board of Directors or choose a new direction equipment for the next four years. With these lines I would like to encourage you to take part actively in both events, as well as joining this new endeavor that is the Spanish Proteomics Society. Union makes Force. Although we do not try to be competitors of any other already established societies, in the SEProt, we sincerely believe that we can, and have to, in order to populate an empty niche that legitimally belongs to the spanish proteomics research community. How this incipient project develops will depend on the symbiosis, of which the SEProt will try to be a catalyst, established among all his academic and managerial associates, united by the common interest in the development of Proteomics in Spain. We hope this letter will serve in advance of a campaign for popularization and member recruitment that from the Board of the SEProt we will soon launch.

We all are the SEProt. Please, contribute to his development. Become a Member. See you in Córdoba!

Juan J. Calvete
(Acting President of the SEProt)
